my link yesterday didn’t work out like I planned

the thumbnail doesn’t work

so when you click on the small version it doesn’t go to a large version

not sure where it went wrong

that is the problem with new software. it never works like the old soft ware…

instead of tweaking the interface and improving proformance, they usually ad new features, that may or may not work. and usually work slower. I do the same exact work I did ten years ago, on a machine that is four times faster, but it is just as slow as the old way, because the software is bloated. they need to make this stuff simpler and less complex, but stable.

a nintendo cartridge never freezes… why can’t a computer work like that?

maybe make two versions, a stable simple version, and a complicated fucked up version with a bunch of useless features like adding flash to illustrator, I am sure some people use that, but I don’t ever, so why do I need it?

anyway my first graphics computer was a mac II si with an 80 mb hard drive and 5 mb of ram

sometimes you need a little positive re-enforcement. That is why I like fun art vs. adventure art. Something goofy or colorful can help my mood lean towards the better than an angry dwarf battling a dragon. Right now a movement is in full swing. I guess it has been around awhile since the 60′s with Creepy and other horror magazines. The Dwarf aspect though seemed to really take hold in the 1970′s. Dungens and Dragons was one of the first role playing games I can remember. Led Zepplin is the sound track of fairies and middle earth. I grew up being exposed to this type of stuff, but could never really understand why people got into it…. escape ism? 

real life is not really that bad to me, I just want to be happy more often, so non traditional clowns and comedy is always welcome. It is hard to quantify though. Comedy is based on timing, so a movie by Charlie Chaplin in the 1920′s was probably hilarious to people of that time, today it is hard to laugh out loud to one of his movies. I find movies I thought were hilarious at the age of ten, have no comedy value today. Go bad and watch meatballs, Bill Murray is funny, but not nearly as funny as he was back then…

I have always tried to crack the comedy code, to create a funny joke, but a joke is funny only in a specific time period… it is like milk… it is only good fresh. 

Monty Python is still funny though after 40 yrs but it is also starting to sour, and it only appeals to a certain type of person, people who don’t like monty python, will never like monty python, and those who do etc…

I did this in Illustrator 9 or 10? It is all object blends, transparency and a little gradient meshes.

I drew the outline with a pencil, then inked it, then scanned the ink. I dropped in the base colors of grey and white then blends on the top of that. I usually start from the background laying in large swatches of color, then add highlights and shading. There is not alot of shading here, I wanted the cat to be clean and bright. 

so I get this drawing done, for the world’s cheapest cat food, it looks like they took a print out and shot it with a camera to color separate it from in four color process. In commercial art you always have to figure out how something will be printed and build your file that way. 

Historically Adobe creates features in Illustrator that can in no way be printed or seperated without the printer drivers being rewritten. Which is something nobody makes money on, so it rarely ever happens. If I had known how this was going to be printed I could create some work around to help them, but nobody said they had a problem, so I didn’t think to ask. Then I saw it on the shelf in the store the cat was all gray with no white anywhere. dang almost something good but not quite.

illustrator CS2… some people wonder why I work in illustrator vs. photoshop… I get better control and easier edits in Illust and can copy and paste shading then reshape the paths to customize the shading….
